The body is in the shape of an angelfish and is very nicely modelled. It is solid silver, marked with Spanish hallmarks on its left pectoral fin with the star (for silver) and the maker’s mark.
The fish is accompanied by six cocktail sticks that can be set into the body of the fish. This model is rather rare and when examples do appear, they are usually missing some or all of the cocktail sticks. That this piece has retained its full set makes it a great find.
The cocktail sticks are flat on one side with organic decorative patterning to the other. They each have a single spike on one end and a double-pointed fork to their other end, making them both versatile and deft in skewering all manner of nibbles.
This cocktail stick set was made by Pasgorcy, a fine quality silversmith active in Madrid for only a short time in the middle of the 20th century. It is both entertaining and useful, and a great conversation piece.
