We are pleased to offer this fitted wardrobe which is an early piece in the scandinavian modern furniture movement. Designed by oscar nilsson (1895-1975) this piece is known as ‘natura’ and it was designed in 1938 and made in 1939. Nilsson designed for exclusive furniture makers in the 1920’s and 30’s, working with bodafors and nk (nordiska kompaniet). This wasn’t a wardrobe of mass production, with only a few variants ever being made.
Very simple but elegant on the outside, made in birch. Door opens on the key to reveal a fitted maple interior. A central partition gives 8 drawer slides to the left hand side with a further 2 slides to the right over a bank of fixed drawers, 2 of which contain fitted compartments. Interior has faired well over the years, only suffering minimal daylight fading.
Nk makers plaque on the inside of door, also on the reverse, nk r41965 – c9 2 39.
The model is digital registered in the nordiska museet as number 41965.
Overall very good condition. 1 small patch to door on the front, which may have been done at the time of manufacture, 1 small loss to edge on door interior, both of which have been photographed. Other very minor surface marks in line with age.
Rich golden colour with contrasting interior. Fine piece of quality furniture. Heavy item.
