Vintage Design
This rare set of vintage ceramics is a production of the potters of Accolay. It consists of two jugs or pitchers of identical shape, whose glazing work varies. One presents subtle nuances around a brick-brown glaze with a shiny black, the other a speckled aspect, multicolored on a yellow background. The two pieces dialogue together, presenting the work and mastery of the Accolay potters.
The two ceramic pieces are beautifully made, in a very elegant and modern form. They are nicely signed on the back with a stylus. The Accolay jugs are in good condition, some minimal traces of time are visible.
10cm diameter, 23cm height.
In the middle of the 20th century, Accolay was the setting for a real revolution in ceramics. Four former students of Alexandre Kostanda settled in the small village in the Yonne in the mid-1940s, and many potters followed their example. For about forty years, the production of the potters of Accolay would be impressive, original and audacious.
