The different pieces of ironwork follow a tradition that is already in arks at the end of the 16th century (compare the example shown with the Gothic chest from the 15th century of the Valladolid Museum, for example), but with decorative motifs of Baroque influence: tornapuntas, Simplified scrolls, curves, etc. The shape of the present rectangular chest with a flat lid is also the usual one in this type of furniture since the Gothic period, without the influence of the 17th century being appreciated in this sense. It
is necessary to emphasize the weight that the typology would have in the Spanish furniture, because it would last until the 19th century, especially in Andalusia, only with slight changes, the most notorious of which would be the passage of decorative elements in openwork iron, as in the present example, to use golden brass tacks drawing shields, vegetable themes, etc. The chest responds to the usual in the Castilian models, totally different from the Catalans, Valencian and Mallorcan. Although it was the most usual piece of furniture at the time, not many examples are preserved: compare the two 17th century chests in the Casa de Cervantes Museum (EC 202 without fittings, CE 145 with them) of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).”
