On offer here is an antique early 17th century Trunk or chest that was made in Northern Spain in the 1620s. The trunk was composed of boards of thick solid boards of chestnut wood. The trunk or case piece was enriched with steel forged steel nails in a diagonal cross pattern on its front. The trunk is equipped with the authentic forged steel lock that is a blacksmith’s masterpiece of its time as it has endured for over 350 years. The design of the trunk shows great resemblance with the German “Stollentruhe”. The wood shows the many marks of use one would expect from a piece this old. Many dents, small scratches, and general wear give this piece an ancient and medieval look. On the inside, the piece is fitted with an interior compartment of which the lid can be used to keep the main lid in an upright position when opened.
The trunk has a very dark brown color with a great patina and deep gloss built up over many years.
The piece is fully functional and was gently cleaned in our atelier. This exceptional and rare trunk is clean, solid, and ready for use.
