Vintage Design
Traditional and regional salt box, made of oak, and fruitwood for the sides and the back.
Like most of it’s counterparts, it opens on the top with a sloping and removable flap, with carved edges. It conceals a 13.5 cm deep compartment, historically dedicated to the conservation of salt.
In the lower part, this small wall box offers a 4.5 cm high drawer, in which it was customary to place spices. it’s front, provided with a knob of pulling, is worked and curved, as are the three visible faces of this typically rural object.
A floral bouquet arranged in a vase embellishes the front of this salt box, which ends with a low chantournée crosspiece with abstract decoration.
The whole is tipped by a generous pediment with prominent motifs and moving contours, culminating in an encircled floral motif.
This object is made up of two rounded and sculpted front uprights, and it rests on four snail feet. The latter, originally purely decorative, can however be used as supports if one chooses to place this salt box. If necessary, an iron ring and two holes are already present to allow it’s suspension.
The right front post of this item is blackened, probably due to an unruly candle flame. But it is necessary to note that this discrete wound adds to the authenticity of this object to how much rustic and natural, which asks only to be reinvented, and integrated into a warm interior.
