15thC Sri Lankan Divided Kingdom Period Standing Bronze Buddha. Looks to have a high silver content in the alloy based on the sheen of the surface and the softness of the surface. Quite rare to find a figure from this period in this large size and high quality–the vast majority are the later Kandy style, which look similar but have rounder faces and distinctive ripples covering the robes. If you search the internet you will find very few of this type outside of museums or high end auction houses that are not just a few inches tall and quite provincial in casting. The size is an impressive 12 1/2 inches tall for the figure only and a total height on attached stand of 13.5 inches. It is extremely heavy for its size. Many Lankan Buddhas can be stiff and remote–this one displays great personality and friendliness. I am posting many of my most cherished and valuable pieces as I near retirement. They are not inexpensive, but they are each special, very uncommon, authentic pieces, the equivalent of which you are unlikely to find again.
