There is so much to say about these volumes. A set of 24, they are the Waverley Novels by Sir Walter Scott, the Midlothian Edition. Some of the titles are “Ivanhoe”, “Rob Roy”, “The Talisman” and of course, 21 others.
The books are dated 1902 and are leather bound with marbleized papers on the covers and the front and back inside.
This edition produced 1000 copies and this set is numbered 373 out of that 1000.
The top edge is gilded and each volume has a print of a famous painting depicting the story next to the title page.
The set was published in New York by George D. Sproul.
These books are a wonderful piece of history to own and display. Measurements given are for one volume. The entire set lines up at 38” for shelf space.
Each book has a name written on a cover page on the inside. This would be the name of the collector in New Orleans who apparently treasured the books for many years.
