The art of apothecaries was indeed in antiquity one of the seven major Florentine arts, recognized as such since 1266.

It had been created by the Medici in 1545, and between the 16th and 17th centuries, it experienced a period of great splendor because here varieties of medicinal plants were finally cultivated and studied.
Then it was the appearance of the first collections of medicine recipes was born in Florence.
