Dramatic piece of German 20th century ceramics inspired by natur.: Red buffalo by Otto Keramiek Ceramic buffalo figurine by Otto Gerharz (former director at Ruscha) from design thought to be by Tschoerner. It’s an icon of midcentury interior decor and makes a striking impression. The body is decorated with bright glossy finishes while the contrasting highlights of the hairy coat are rendered in a combination of iridescent and fat lava glazes. Measures: 23 cm high at the shoulder, and 31cm long nose to tail. The Otto factory in Rheinbach, Germany, was established by Otto Gerharz in 1964, following a decade of work as Production Director at Ruscha. The Otto factory is famed for new and innovative glazes (particularly fat lava and matte glazes) and was taken over by Otto’s son in 1994. Excellent condition with no signs of any damage. The glazes have been well-applied and the feet are perfectly flat and stabile.
