Magnificent porcelain tureen produced by Montpellier, a factory located in French Provence. with an oval profile, curved shapes and bulbous appearance, this tureen stands on four small legs that make up its base. Two small handles protrude from the short sides, shaped like a vegetable, as does the handle on the lid, which simulates being a fruit. It has an exquisite yellow color and is finely decorated with hand-picked flowers in blue and mauve tones. The other color present is green, which harmonizes perfectly with the yellow of the background, designed and patented by André Philip, a style now known as Old Montpellier. Various stamps at the bottom.
Montpellier is a ceramic center located in the south of France. Currently, it continues to stand out for the quality of its products and its artisanal know-how: it works with quality raw materials and uses traditional production techniques. The art of ceramics emerged at the end of the 16th century, responding to the creation of the School, and later, University, of Medicine. with the 17th century, hospital foundations multiplied in the city, which made it necessary to produce vases and albarelos, since each institution had its own apothecary or pharmacy. A true pharmaceutical industry is then promoted, and with it, pottery.
