A Swedish 18th century period Baroque “Kas” or “kast” cabinet. This large-sized period Baroque cabinet features a nicely molded and overhung cornice, with pair of chubby-faced putti wrapped within acanthus leaves carved prominently at center, above a pair of doors which are flanked within stepped-out corinthian carved pilasters, with two half-drawers housed beneath. The body is adorn with raised panels of geometric shapes and intricately carved trim accents. The kas is raised nicely upon large-sized bun feet, with front pair being larger than rear. The geometrically carved paneled doors open to reveal plentiful storage within, and lock with a single escutcheon, with elaborate foliage carving, placed within the center column. This wood cabinet has a wonderful patina throughout, with darker ebonized areas emphasizing the panels and feet. This Swedish Baroque kast, from the early 1700’s, offers endless storage potential, and will add a stately elegance within any room. In addition to a wardrobe, this piece would be perfect to house a TV and other electrical components in a living room!
